Auditing CTV delivery against the original audience brief

Compare the original CTV audience brief with applied targeting, device, geography and delivery evidence without overstating who watched.

Audit audience delivery by comparing the original brief with the rules actually applied and the delivery that can be reported. A targeting setting records intent; it does not prove every intended person watched. Finish with supported delivery, confirmed departures and unknowns.

Auditing CTV Audience Delivery: Step-by-Step

  1. Copy original audience brief into auditInclude all required boundaries and preferences with effective dates
  2. Trace each rule to evidenceMatch brief elements to platform settings and reportable data
  3. Assess status per elementClassify as Supported, Variance or Unknown based on data
  4. Resolve variances at the data levelCheck definitions, dates, and unknowns; record changes
  5. Finalise with supported delivery, confirmed departures and unknownsEnsure transparency for reporting and future briefs

Keep the original brief visible

Copy the original audience wording into the audit. Separate required boundaries, such as service areas, eligible TV inventory and exclusions, from preferences that could change with approval.

Record whether the brief meant people, accounts, devices or households. Place each approved amendment beside the original requirement with its effective date; assess delivery before and after the change separately.

Trace each rule to evidence

Use one row per material requirement or preference:

Brief elementApplied rule or commitmentDelivery evidenceStatus
Australian service areaLocation setting and its definitionAvailable geographic breakdown and unknown shareSupported, variance or unknown
TV screenDevice and inventory ruleReported device category and unknown shareSupported, variance or unknown
Audience signalNamed list, account rule or content contextRelevant settings and reportable audience fieldsSupported, variance or unknown
ExclusionBuying control or publisher commitmentApplicable delivery detailSupported, variance or unknown

Match the records to the actual booking, deal or line item. Check the platform to confirm which targeting options were available for the line-item type and inventory.

A user can appear in several lists, so do not treat list rows as a partition of campaign delivery. Use dated records of applied audience rules when auditing a changed audience rule.

For geography, confirm the effective option. Treat location targeting and reported locations as imperfect indicators, not proof of a viewer's precise position or home address.

Resolve variances at the level the data supports

For an unexpected location, device or segment result, first check field definitions, dates and unknown records. Then establish whether a rule was missing, changed, unavailable on the supply, or simply untestable from the report. If an optional rule was broadened, record approval and timing.

Describe segment delivery as delivery under an eligibility rule where the records support that wording. Close with a specific correction for the next brief or report.
