Checking geographic coverage for Australian campaigns
Compare Australian service areas with CTV location controls, eligible TV inventory and geographic reporting.
Start with the offer’s actual service area, then check whether the proposed CTV line item can target and report delivery for those same places. For a Google Display & Video 360 proposal, check its Connected TV targeting, Geography targeting and Location targeting settings, along with deal setup, for the specific inventory. Request an estimate for the required locations and campaign dates before booking.
Map the service area
List each customer service area and keep any postcode limit in the brief, even if the platform cannot select that boundary. Where useful, express areas against the ABS Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS): New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania, Northern Territory, Australian Capital Territory and Other Territories. States and Territories consist of one or more Statistical Areas Level 4 (SA4), which in aggregate cover Australia without gaps or overlaps; ASGS State/Territory boundaries are cartographic representations, not for legal use.
| Check | Answer needed |
|---|---|
| Offer | Is the advertised offer valid throughout this area? |
| Control | Can the area be selected or excluded on the proposed CTV supply? |
| Scale | What eligible TV impressions are estimated for the dates? |
| Reporting | At what geographic level can delivery be shown? |
| Unknowns | What location data is missing or unreliable? |
Ask whether the proposed buy can target the exact business boundary or only a broader area, and whether reporting will use that same geography. Do not assume that a postcode limit in the brief is available as a targeting control or reportable level.

Verify the buying path
For a Google Display & Video 360 proposal, check the Connected TV targeting, Geography targeting and Location targeting controls, and the Best practices for setting up deals guidance. Ask the buyer or seller to show the available controls for the specific line item and deal, and provide an eligible-impression estimate for each required area and date range.
Clarify what each geographic target means and which location signals the actual buy uses. A geographic target is not a verified street address or proof of where someone was when viewing.
For a negotiated deal, check whether bid requests carry the geographic data required by the chosen control. Confirm how country, region or city values are handled, including unknown or unavailable values, and keep unknown delivery separate rather than assigning it to a nearby service area.

Reconcile the result
Ask for the assumptions behind each area estimate, including eligible publishers, TV devices, dates and other targeting. An unsupported estimate is unknown, not zero.
If a small area combined with an optional audience rule leaves too little inventory, revisit the optional rule while keeping the offer valid for the people targeted.
After launch, compare delivered impressions with the approved areas at the geographic level the reporting method supports. Confirm that level before booking: targeting and reporting can use different signals or processing times. IP-derived location has precision limits; registration information may reflect home or work rather than point-in-time position. Describe coverage only at the level the reporting evidence supports.
